Author Guidelines
Authors are, of course, the bulwark of the JWC, and theirs is the most basic and necessary function to providing for the content of the journal and assuring its academic standards. Interested authors may submit work that they deem of an academic nature, appropriately researched and documented, worthy of publication in an international journal, and potentially of interest to the JWC. There is no submission schedule, and submissions are invited at any time.
Guidelines for Submission
1. Articles should be sent by e-mail attachment (in Word or compatible format, or PDF) to both Editors, and should also include an abstract of no more than 150 words. Submissions should conform to the Chicago Manual of Style whenever possible, avoiding where possible in-line citations.
2. Maps, charts, illustrations, and other data representations are encouraged when they provide clarity not attainable by description. Such data may be submitted in a separate PDF file than the article, so long as they are submitted together and notation is included in the article as to proper location of charts or other data. Authors of approved articles will be expected to work with the layout editors concerning the formatting of any included graphics or data.
3. Articles may be submitted in any language for which there is adequate readership, subject to the approval of the Editorial Team. Submissions in languages other than English must include an abstract in English so that the Editors may identify the primary topics and route submissions accordingly. If submissions are in languages that use non-Roman alphabets, please consider sending the file in PDF format with necessary fonts attached (see the help index for Adobe Acrobat for instructions on how to do this). Submissions should conform to an appropriate style for footnotes, spelling, punctuation as per the common practices of academic writing in the relevant language.
4. All articles should be entirely free of any identifying information so that they may be reviewed anonymously (also check the footnotes for identifying information).
5. Once a submission is received, the author will be assigned a user name and password so that they may log into the JWC web site to track the review process, and participate in the copyediting processes once the article is approved for publication. If there is more than one author, the author submitting the item is asked to identify the principal contact who becomes the one with whom all editorial correspondence is conducted and who accesses the JWC web site.
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- The submission file is in Microsoft Word or RTF document file format.
- Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
- The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
- If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review) have been followed.
